What’s great about staying in the middle of a vineyard is that suddenly wine is not just something in a bottle. It’s fields, vines and #workers. #onthismorningsrun I see workers out at 6:30 a.m. tying vines. You might be able to see one guy walking, but it’s tough to see the rest unless you look really closely because they are working at ground level, using the rags I’ve seen piled in the corners of the vineyard to catch the young vines and tie them so they’ll grow up to join the bigger vines. The workers all wear big brimmed hats and long sleeved shirts to protect themselves from the sun. And many wear bandanas on their faces. As I run by them, it’s a cool 60 degrees, but you can feel the heat that’s coming. They’ll be out here until 4:30 p.m. So here’s to the #workers who provide us not just with #wine, but with #coffee, #milk and everything else we consume.
